Our History

Originally planted as an initiative of Eastwood Baptist Church, Epping Baptist Church held its first service in the Epping School of Arts in June of 1930, with Sunday School commencing later that year. In December 1932, 17 people met in a home and resolved to form a separate church. Epping Baptist Church was inaugurated on March 29, 1933, with 26 foundation members led by Pastor Frank Starr.

Epping Baptist Church continued to meet in a hired hall throughout the Great Depression, and still had no official building by 1936. A move was made to dissolve the church and rejoin Eastwood Baptist.

However, the Home Mission Committee of the Baptist Union stepped in and convinced the church to delay the dissolution. They also provided financial help to purchase an available site on the corner of Ray & Carlingford Road. In October 1936, Epping Baptist Church rescinded the motion to disband. With further encouragement from the Home Mission Committee, that corner block was purchased on November 1, 1937, for 300 pounds.

Our church building as we know it today opened its doors on August 27, 1938, and have remained open ever since. It is a privilege to have grown with the Epping community over the past 90 years, and to be a spiritual home for people from all nations and all generations.

By God’s grace we now witness a flourishing ministry with a growing congregation, home to over 200 members. We look forward to see how God continues to work through us in the years to come.
